Show Notes:
It’s extremely important that we listen to and learn from those who are living with Alzheimer’s disease or another type of dementia.
These millions of people are members of our families and are an invaluable part of our society. They are brilliant, wise and actively advocating for their rights and needs.
As I wrote in my article, The Importance of Listening to the Person With Dementia, which was published by Next Avenue, our government officials, medical professionals, and the families affected must stop, listen and make changes based on what the people with dementia are telling us.
Otherwise this epidemic is going to continue to alienate millions of families who are affected by dementia.
People with dementia know what is needed to help them fight back against this cruel disease. They understand how communities should be educated and adapted to help them remain included and engaged.
To help spread their message, over the next couple of episodes, I plan to resurrect some interviews I did a couple of years ago.
I was pretty green when it came to recording quality audio, so I’ve done my best to improve the recording so that you get the best experience possible.
However, there may still be some parts that have less than stellar quality but I truly believe you will find it acceptable and the content invaluable.
In this episode, I’m replaying my interview with David Kramer from May of 2015.
After two years of extensive testing, David was diagnosed with Early Onset Alzheimer’s Disease at the young age of 56.
Prior to his diagnosis, David was a physician for more than 30 years during which time he specialized in emergency medicine and was a published author.
Since his diagnosis, he’s been an active advocate for the disease and he runs the Facebook page, Living Well with Alzheimer’s where his mission is to enhance the quality of life for people with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias.
David has been maintaining an active and social life. In fact, at the time of this recording he had just returned from a cruise and a trip to Disney World.
During this episode, you will hear us discuss how David Lives Well with Alzheimer’s.
